Circumnavigate Macleay island

Sunday, 05 August 2012
A day trip around Macleay island in Moreton Bay, with lunch on Karragarra island. The trip will leave from, and return to, Victoria point. Register by Sun 29th July.

Full Details

Discipline: Sea kayaking

Grade: 1 (note the distance is a bit longer)
Water: Bay - smooth waters
Distance: 24km (about 13NM) max. Note that we will have the tide with us on most legs of this trip and depending on weather on the day can be shortened by returning to Victoria Point from the lunch place (Karragarra Island) the same direction (more or less) that we went there.

Description: We will be leaving from Victoria Point heading to the southern point of Macleay Island via the protected channel between Garden Island and Macleay Island. We will lunch on Karragarra Island at the picnic area. Following lunch we will head north along the eastern side of Macleay Island via the narrow channel between Lamb Island and Macleay Island. We will follow the eastern shore to Potts Point then cross over direct to Victoria Point.

We will be practicing some skills along the way including edging, towing and navigational skills. It is not intended to have you in the water. We may try some fire lighting skills over lunch without matches or lighters! Toilets are available at the lunch place.
